Sandora belongs to people we love. It is not one of our Greensboro rentals and we do not manage it, but when friends and guests ask us where to go for salt air, this is the answer, and with the owners' blessing we are introducing it here rather than leaving it to a search results page.
It is a brand new fortified construction duplex in Kure Beach on Pleasure Island, a short walk from the ocean, with a saltwater pool, two garages, and a beach view from the balcony. Nothing in it has been worn in yet. Every finish, appliance, and mattress is new, and the first reviews will come from the first guests. Book now and you are part of the grand opening.
The name is a nod to Pandora and the glowing teal and gold world of Avatar, which tells you something about the palette inside and the lotus on the sign out front.
Three ways to book one house
Most beach rentals come in one size. Sandora is a duplex built to rent three ways from a single property, so the same address works for a quiet weekend for two, a small group, or a twelve person reunion. Pick the configuration that fits, then book directly with Network Carolina Beach, who manages the house. When you book, mention that Joy sent you.

Sandora was built by Vince Lutheran Homes, a Carolina Beach custom builder with more than 25 years of coastal construction and work featured in Coastal Living. Fortified construction means the house was engineered for wind, salt, and storm season, not just for photographs.
Thinking about building or buying at the coast? A stay at Sandora is the closest thing to a test drive of this builder's work. You live inside the construction, the layout, and the finish level for a weekend before you ever sit down with them. Most people choose a builder from a brochure. You can choose one from a bed you slept in.

What's here
A golf cart is not included, but golf cart rentals are easy to find on Pleasure Island and the house has parking and charging for one. Ask Network Carolina Beach who they recommend when you book.

Sandora is booked and managed by Network Carolina Beach, 910.458.8562, not by Joy Watson Real Estate. Rates, minimum stays, pet fees, deposits, and house rules are set by Network and shown on each listing page, and the listing page is the governing document. We share Sandora with the owners' permission because we know the house, the builder, and the people behind it.
Pets
Pets are welcome in all three configurations. Pet fees and limits are set by Network and listed on each booking page. If you are traveling with an assistance animal, read our ESA and service animal guide and let Network know at booking.
Last minute stays
Three night last minute bookings are allowed when the calendar is open, which makes Sandora a good answer to a sudden free weekend.

Can I stay at Sandora to experience the builder's work before building my own coastal home?
Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to book. Vince Lutheran Homes builds custom coastal homes around Wilmington, Carolina Beach, and Kure Beach. A weekend at Sandora lets you live inside their construction and finish level before you meet with them. The coast is a specialized market that Joy Watson Real Estate does not practice in, but Joy has a trusted coastal agent she is happy to refer you to.
The drive from Greensboro
Kure Beach is the Triad's closest stretch of real ocean. From Greensboro it is I-40 east to Wilmington, then south down Pleasure Island through Carolina Beach. Leave after Friday breakfast and you are on the sand by mid afternoon, which is why Sandora was set up with Greensboro and Piedmont Triad guests in mind.
Kure Beach and Pleasure Island
Kure Beach (say "Cure-ee") sits between Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher at the south end of Pleasure Island. The town describes itself as known for wide sandy beaches and a peaceful atmosphere, and that matches our experience: mom and pop restaurants, a historic fishing pier, and an oceanfront park, with none of the high rise crowding you find at bigger beaches.
Fort Fisher State Historic Site, a few minutes south, is free to visit and marks the Confederate fort whose fall in January 1865 closed Wilmington, the last functioning port supplying Lee's army. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is next door, though it is closed for a major expansion at the time of writing, so check ncaquariums.com for its reopening before you plan around it. North of Kure Beach, the Carolina Beach boardwalk covers the ice cream and arcade side of a beach week.
