Sandora belongs to people we know well. It is not one of our Greensboro rentals and we do not manage it, but when friends and guests ask us where to go for salt air, this is the answer, and with the owners' blessing we are introducing it here rather than leaving it to a search results page.
Sandora is booked and managed by Network Carolina Beach, not by Joy Watson Real Estate. It belongs to people we know, and Joy receives stays at Sandora in exchange for sharing it.
It is a brand new duplex in Kure Beach on Pleasure Island, built to the IBHS FORTIFIED Gold standard, a short walk from the ocean, with a saltwater pool and two garages. Nothing in it has been worn in yet. Every finish, appliance, and mattress is new, and the first reviews will come from the first guests. Book now and you are part of the grand opening.
The name is a nod to Pandora and the glowing world of Avatar, which is where the bioluminescent lotus on the Sandora badge comes from.
Watch the walk from our door to the sand
People ask how close Sandora really is to the water, so here is the walk itself. Out the front door, down the block with Lucy the dog, across the street to the public beach access, over the boardwalk, and onto the sand. Then the walk back, and a quick look at the back deck. No car, no shuttle, no parking lot in between.

Most beach rentals come in one size. Sandora is a duplex built to rent three ways from a single property, so the same address works for a quiet getaway, a small group, or a twelve person reunion. Pick the configuration that fits, then book directly with Network Carolina Beach, who manages the house. When you book, mention that Joy sent you.

Sandora was built by Vince Lutheran Homes, a custom home builder in Wilmington, NC. The builder's own site cites more than 25 years of custom building in the Wilmington area and designs featured in Coastal Living. Sandora holds an official IBHS FORTIFIED Gold designation from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, the top of the three FORTIFIED Home levels. Gold requires an engineered continuous load path tying the roof to the walls and the walls to the foundation, plus pressure rated windows, doors, and garage doors. IBHS designed it to help keep wind, wind-driven rain, and storm pressure out of a home. It is a wind standard, not a flood or storm surge standard. FORTIFIED is a voluntary construction standard from the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS). Gold is the top of three levels. It requires an engineered continuous load path connecting roof to walls to foundation, plus pressure rated windows, doors, and garage doors, checked by an independent evaluator. It is designed for wind and wind-driven rain, not flooding or storm surge. Sandora holds the official FORTIFIED Gold designation. Insurance credits for FORTIFIED homes vary, so ask your own insurance agent about your situation.
How many bathrooms does Sandora have?
Sandora A has 2 full bathrooms. Sandora B has 4 full bathrooms and 1 half bathroom, for a total of 4.5. Booked as the whole house, that combines to 6 full bathrooms and 1 half bathroom, a total of 6.5 baths for 5 bedrooms.
Can I book just part of the house, or the whole thing?
Either. Book the 2 bedroom unit (Sandora A), the 3 bedroom unit (Sandora B), or reserve the entire 5 bedroom whole house for larger groups.
Does Sandora have reviews yet?
Not yet. Sandora is a brand new property, so it does not have guest reviews. It is newly built with brand new finishes throughout, and early guests are the grand opening.

Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to book. Vince Lutheran Homes builds custom coastal homes in the Wilmington area. A stay at Sandora lets you live inside an IBHS FORTIFIED Gold build and their finish level before you meet with them. The coast is a market Joy Watson Real Estate does not practice in, but Joy has a trusted coastal agent she is happy to refer you to.
The drive from Greensboro
Kure Beach is the Triad's closest stretch of real ocean. From Greensboro it is I-40 east to Wilmington, then south down Pleasure Island through Carolina Beach. Kure Beach and Pleasure Island
Kure Beach (say "Cure-ee") sits between Carolina Beach and Fort Fisher at the south end of Pleasure Island. The town is known for wide beaches and a quieter pace: small local restaurants, a historic fishing pier, and an oceanfront park, with none of the high rise crowding you find at bigger beaches.
Fort Fisher State Historic Site, a few minutes south, marks the Confederate fort whose fall in January 1865 closed Wilmington, the last major port supplying Lee's army. The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher next door closed on May 26, 2026 for a multi-year renovation and expansion, with a smaller temporary aquarium open at Independence Mall in Wilmington in the meantime.
