Furnished Monthly Rentals Near Cone Health in Greensboro, NC
Every few weeks I get a message that starts the same way: "I start at Cone in three weeks. Is there anything furnished nearby I can rent by the month?" Sometimes it comes from a travel nurse. Sometimes it is a medical resident, a relative staying close to a patient, or a homeowner whose sale closed before the next house was ready. This guide covers where the Cone Health hospitals are, how monthly stays work in North Carolina, and how to book one without getting scammed.
Where the Cone Health Hospitals Are in Greensboro
The Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital is the flagship of Cone Health. Cone Health describes it as a 628-bed teaching hospital on a 63-acre campus. Its physical address is 1121 North Church Street, and its mailing address is 1200 North Elm Street. The Women's and Children's Center on the same campus opened in February 2020.
Wesley Long Hospital is on the west side of town at 2400 West Friendly Avenue. Cone Health lists it as a 175-bed private-room hospital that first opened as a clinic in 1917.
The two campuses are linked by greenway. The city's Latham Park Greenway starts north of the Moses Cone campus on North Elm Street. With the Hill Street Connector and the Lake Daniel Greenway, it runs west to Wesley Long and Friendly Shopping Center. If you plan to bike to work, ride the route once on a day off before your first shift.
Cone Health also runs hospitals outside Greensboro. You can find every campus on its locations page. This post sticks to the two Greensboro hospitals.
How Monthly Rentals Work in North Carolina
The numbers that change the rules: 28, 30, and 90
Greensboro's short-term rental rules apply to stays of 30 days or less. Those rentals need a city zoning permit, which the host handles. A furnished stay longer than 30 days falls outside the city's short-term rental definition.
Taxes follow a different line. Under N.C.G.S. 105-164.4F, an accommodation rented to the same person for 90 or more continuous days is exempt from sales tax and local room occupancy tax. The North Carolina Department of Revenue says tax collected during the first 90 days may be refunded or credited once the stay reaches 90 continuous days. A 13-week assignment that ends on day 89 does not qualify.
On Airbnb, a booking of 28 nights or more counts as a monthly stay. You pay the first month when you book and the rest in monthly installments. A long-term cancellation policy replaces the host's usual one and generally requires 30 days' notice for changes.
Which state law covers your stay
The North Carolina Vacation Rental Act covers rentals of fewer than 90 days for vacation, leisure, or recreation. The Act lists exceptions, and one of them is a person renting while away from home for business or employment. A hospital assignment may fall under North Carolina's general landlord and tenant law instead. The UNC School of Government has a clear explainer on where that line falls. Which law applies affects notice, deposits, and early move-outs, so read your agreement closely and ask a North Carolina attorney if anything is unclear.
What to Look For in a Furnished Monthly Rental
A month is long enough for small things to matter. Before you book, check for:
- Utilities and Wi-Fi included in one price, so you are not opening accounts for a six-week stay
- A full kitchen if you plan to cook between shifts
- A bedroom that gets dark during the day if you work nights
- Off-street parking if you come and go at odd hours
- Laundry inside the home
- A written agreement or booking confirmation with the dates, total cost, deposit, and cancellation terms

How to Book a Monthly Rental Safely
Rental scams target people who need housing fast and cannot see the place first. The Federal Trade Commission lists the warning signs: rent far below the going rate, pressure to decide quickly, an owner who cannot show the home, and requests for payment by wire transfer, gift card, or cryptocurrency. Money sent those ways is usually gone for good.
You can look up who owns a Greensboro address through the Guilford County Tax Department land records. If the name on the listing does not match the owner or a management company, ask why before you send money. Our homes book only on Airbnb, and we never ask for payment off the platform.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I pay occupancy tax on a monthly rental in Greensboro?
Yes, until the stay reaches 90 continuous days with the same guest. At that point North Carolina exempts the stay from sales and room occupancy tax, and tax already collected may be refunded or credited.
Does a 30-day furnished rental need a Greensboro permit?
Stays of 30 days or less fall under the city's short-term rental rules, and the host must hold a zoning permit. Stays longer than 30 days fall outside that definition.
Can I extend my stay if my assignment gets extended?
Ask as soon as you know. We do not hold dates without a confirmed, paid booking, so book the added nights on Airbnb before someone else does.
Can I bring my dog or cat?
Pets are welcome at all of our homes, with a limit of two at the Library of Ivy and Ellie, My Sister's House, and Hunsucker's Place, and one at Your Mom's Place and the Urban Birdhouse. Each listing shows its pet fee.
